(No, that is not what the twins call today, it's just something that we used to call today's holiday prior to the kids coming along. K gets the credit for bringing it into our marriage.)
In case you in the States are wondering what benefit you derive from having us over here, its the fact that we live every day before you do. So, if you are reading this, bleary eyed at 5 am and wondering how on earth you are going to cook that turkey, here is your answer. (I'm providing this because at 5 am I was trying to remember how we cooked it last year. Maybe it will save you some angst.)
1) Stuff bird, slather with butter, sprinkle with pepper and Kosher salt; add NO broth.
2) Cover tightly with tin foil bonnet.
3) Cook at 350 for 20 min/pound. (i.e. 20 lb bird is 6:40)
4) Uncover turkey for last hour of cooking to crisp skin; begin basting periodically.
5) Remove in time for spouse to get other items into oven before company arrives.
6) Get out of spouse's way.
7) Get kids to playground.
8) Simultaneously be fully available to spouse to run last minute errands and open stubborn jars.
Anyway, dinner worked out quite well. The bird was great, K's sides were varied and delicious, the kids were well behaved, and we spent today being thankful for all that we have today.
Happy DankeGaben!
